The
vomer bone (from the Latin, meaning “plowshare”) is part of the nasal septum,
which divides the nose into left and right halves. A deviated septum, often
occurring when the nasal septum has a bend in it, may cause chronic sinusitis
and blockage of the smaller nasal cavity. The deviated septum can usually be
corrected or improved by surgery.
