The
pelvic brim divides the pelvis
(from the Latin, meaning “basin”) into
the false or greater pelvis and the true or lesser pelvis. The part of the
pelvis above the pelvic brim is the false pelvis. It does not contain any
pelvic organs, except for the urinary bladder, when it is full, and the uterus
during pregnancy. The part of the pelvis below the pelvic brim is the true
pelvis. The pelvic inlet is the upper opening of the true pelvis, and the
pelvic outlet is the lower opening of the true pelvis.
