What are the two types of cutaneous glands?
The two types of cutaneous glands, both of which are found in the
dermis, are sebaceous glands and sweat glands. Sebaceous glands, or oil glands,
are found all over the skin, except on the palms of the hands and the soles of
the feet. Sebaceous glands produce sebum, a mixture of oily substances and
fragmented cells that keeps the skin soft and moist and prevents hair from
becoming brittle. A second type of cutaneous gland, the sweat glands, are
widely distributed in the skin and are an important part of the body’s
heat-regulating apparatus.
