What is the origin of the term “synovial fluid”?
Synovial fluid (from the Greek
syn,
meaning “together,” and
ovum,
meaning “egg”) is a thick fluid with a consistency similar to the white of an egg. It is a lubricating fluid secreted into joint cavities.
