How is the shape of the foot efficient for supporting weight?

One of the most efficient types of construction for supporting weight is the arch. The bones of the foot are arranged in two arches to support the weight of the body. The longitudinal arch has two parts, medial and lateral, and extends from the front to the back of the foot. The transverse arch extends across the ball of the foot.
