What is the condition of “fallen arches”?

The bones of the foot that form the arches are held in place by strong ligaments and tendons. When these ligaments and tendons are weakened by excess weight, postural abnormalities, or genetic predisposition, the height of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot may decrease or “fall,” resulting in a condition known
 as flatfeet.
