What is the procedure for a PET scan?

A patient is injected with a radioisotope, which travels through the body and is transported to the organ and tissue to be studied. As the radioisotopes are absorbed by the cells, high-energy gamma rays are produced. A computer collects and analyzes the gamma-ray emission, producing an image of the organ’s activity.
