How are PET scans used to detect and treat cancer?

PET scans of the whole body may detect cancers. While the PET scans do not provide cancer therapy, they are very useful in examining the effects of cancer therapies and treatments on a tumor. Since it is possible to observe biochemical activities of cells and tumors using PET scans, biochemical changes to tumors following
treatment may be observed.
