Who coined the term “homeostasis”?

Walter Bradford Cannon (1871–1945), who elaborated on Claude Bernard’s (1813–1878) concept of the milieu intérieur (interior environment), used the term “homeostasis” to describe the body’s ability to maintain a relative constancy in its internal environment.
